DAVV Exam Overhaul: Fewer Questions, More Time for Students
26 Jul
Summary
- DAVV revised exam pattern for 100-mark papers.
- New pattern reduces questions from 15 to 11.
- Changes aim to boost pass rates after sharp declines.
In response to a critical decline in pass percentages, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidhyalaya (DAVV) has overhauled its examination format for first-year undergraduate students.
Effective from the upcoming examination cycle, five 100-mark papers will now feature 11 questions instead of the previous 15. This adjustment aims to provide students with more time to complete their two-hour assessments, thereby reducing pressure.
The revised pattern specifically impacts Hindi, English, Multidisciplinary, Value Added, and Vocational subjects. These papers, which previously required students to answer numerous questions without internal assessment, will now include two 15-mark questions and five 10-mark questions demanding short descriptive answers.
This strategic change was implemented after a thorough review of recent results, which revealed alarmingly low pass rates across major courses. For instance, BCom First Year saw its pass percentage drop to 62%, BBA to 60%, and BCA to a concerning 50%.
University officials highlighted that the previous structure placed undue stress on students, compelling them to attempt many questions solely through theory. The new scheme is anticipated to foster better time management and encourage more analytical responses from students. Affiliated colleges have been instructed to prepare students according to the updated examination guidelines.
