New Youth Zone Aims to Boost Crewe Careers

A new youth centre, known as The Dome, is nearing completion in Crewe and is scheduled to open its doors later this autumn. Youth workers are actively engaging with the town's young residents to gain a deep understanding of their current experiences, which will inform the development of the centre's programs. This approach ensures the activities are relevant and meet the specific needs of the community.

The Dome is operated by a charity and is a member of the national OnSide network. Its development has been supported by the government's Towns Fund, which awarded Crewe £22.9 million in 2021. The facility will feature a sports hall, a rooftop football pitch, a gym, a boxing ring, a dance studio, and a climbing wall.

Additional spaces will include a kitchen for cooking classes for young people and their parents. While government funding and local council contributions cover some costs, the charity also relies on partnerships with local businesses for fundraising. These collaborations are crucial for bridging the gap between youth and employment.

Luxury car manufacturer Bentley Motors, headquartered in Crewe, is among the business partners. The company views its involvement as vital for supporting the local community, from which many of its employees are drawn. Bentley has a history of supporting local educational initiatives and sees the youth zone as a natural fit to provide young people with valuable opportunities and prepare them for future careers, ultimately benefiting the town's economy.
