CISCE Launches Mental Health Program for Students
19 Sep
Summary
- CISCE initiates a three-tier framework for student mental health.
- Schools will hold structured classroom discussions on well-being themes.
- Top best practices will be published in a national compendium.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has announced a significant initiative to bolster student mental health. Ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10, a three-tier engagement framework will be implemented across 3,300 affiliated schools. This program, running from October 4 to October 31, focuses on four key themes: mental health, emotional well-being, resilience, and supportive school environments.
Schools are tasked with facilitating structured 40-45 minute classroom discussions for students in classes VI to XII. The program spans four weeks, with each week dedicated to a specific topic. These range from addressing student stress and academic pressure in the first week to exploring emotional well-being and healthy digital habits in the second. The third week will tackle drug and substance abuse, while the final week will focus on building resilience and seeking help. Expert guidance will be provided, aiming to develop a Student Mental Health and Well-being Charter.
School heads must designate a teacher coordinator to oversee the initiative. To incentivize participation, the CISCE will select and publish the 10 most outstanding school-based best practices in a national compendium. School administrators have welcomed the plan, emphasizing the importance of such structured guidelines for addressing contemporary youth crises.
