Kids Turn Real-Life Challenges Into Stories

Children from the Chimbel area and other parts of Goa have discovered the power of storytelling, transforming their everyday lives and challenges into imaginative narratives. Through a series of workshops conducted by Bookworm Libraries and the Communicare Trust, young participants were guided to write, illustrate, and produce their own books.
These workshops provided a unique platform for children, including those from Indiranagar slums, to express themselves. They channeled personal experiences, such as difficult living conditions or bullying, into creative tales. The initiative aimed to instill confidence and a stronger connection to reading by reflecting local cultures and experiences in literature.
Across 15 sessions, the children developed original stories, learned illustration techniques, and engaged in bookbinding, creating anthologies titled 'Kalakriti'. The program promoted multilingualism, with stories created in English, Konkani, and Hindi. This approach ensures that the published youth-led stories remain accessible and culturally relevant, connecting local heritage with broader imaginative horizons.
