Summary
- CBSE awards best marks for extra questions attempted.
- An asterisk indicates marks not considered by CBSE.
- Verification portal active until June 6, 2026.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a clarification regarding the marking of extra questions students attempt on their exam papers. This notice addresses concerns from students who observed discrepancies between their calculated marks and the total marks received after obtaining scanned copies of their evaluated answer books.
CBSE explained that due to internal choices in question papers, students often answer more questions than required. The Board's policy is to consider the best marks obtained by a candidate for these extra attempts, with unconsidered marks indicated by a star-marked asterisk (*). This ensures students receive the highest possible score.
To assist students, CBSE has provided an example on its official notice. The portal for applying for verification of issues in scanned answer books and for re-evaluation of answers became active on June 2 and will close on June 6, 2026. This service is available to students who have already received their scanned answer sheets.
For verification of issues such as missing pages or incorrect evaluation, the fee is ₹100 per answer book. Re-evaluation of a specific question costs ₹25 per question. Payments must be made online via UPI, credit card, debit card, or net banking. Students are advised to submit a single application for verification or re-evaluation.
