Beginning with the 2026-27 academic year, Chamarajanagar district is set to launch bilingual education, offering instruction in both Kannada and English for students in Classes 1 to 5. This significant upgrade affects 137 lower primary government schools, with the goal of enhancing student enrollment and educational quality.
To further bolster early childhood education, the department has also established LKG and UKG sections in 67 government schools across the district. This move is expected to attract more parents to enroll their children in government facilities, providing access to English-medium education. New textbooks, such as Balachethana books, have been developed for kindergarten students.
Teacher preparedness is a key focus, with existing faculty undergoing extensive training and workshops to effectively conduct bilingual classes. Comprehensive reforms are also underway to improve the overall school environment and student experience, including annual event calendars, parent-teacher meetings, extracurricular activities, and essential student supplies.
The department is actively addressing teacher shortages by recruiting guest teachers, with 440 appointed against a need for 480 in the district. These multifaceted efforts aim to strengthen government schools and make them more appealing to students and parents.
