27 Oct
Summary
- 11 IT firms, including Google Education, are training teachers.
- Computer education will be mandatory from Class 6 next year.
- 700 model schools are planned to feature smart classrooms.

Bihar's government schools are set to significantly enhance their technological capabilities through a new partnership with 11 IT companies, including Google Education. This collaboration focuses on training government school teachers in artificial intelligence (AI) and essential digital skills. The initiative is designed to support the upcoming academic session's plan to make computer education compulsory for students starting in Class 6.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will host centralized training sessions, with participating companies conducting practical IT instruction. Arrangements for this training are targeted for completion by January. Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari highlighted AI-related training as a key component for improving overall teaching quality across the state.
Beyond teacher development, the department plans to upgrade school infrastructure by establishing smart classrooms in 700 model schools. These facilities will be extended to other government schools in subsequent phases. The program's success hinges on teachers' ability to integrate their new skills into daily lessons, supported by functional equipment and continuous technical assistance.
To ensure effective implementation, ongoing assessment will track teachers' continued use of technology, regular student computer instruction, and the schools' capacity for long-term maintenance of facilities. This holistic approach aims to deliver sustained digital education benefits across Bihar's school system.
