BU's Admin Woes Sink University Rankings

Senior faculty at Bharathiar University express concerns about a potential slide in academic standing due to administrative deficiencies. The university, which achieved a high A++ NAAC grade in 2023, is reportedly experiencing delays in file processing, with some remaining uncleared for months. This administrative stagnation, coupled with ongoing non-teaching staff protests over ESI deductions and unaddressed faculty grievances regarding the Career Advancement Scheme, is impacting the institution's operations.

The university's performance in national rankings has also seen a notable decline. In 2025, Bharathiar University slipped from 44th to 76th in the overall India rankings and from 26th to 46th in the overall university category. Similar drops were observed in the State Public University category, falling from 8th to 10th place. These declines are attributed by senior faculty to administrative deficiencies affecting academic activities.

Further compounding these issues is the current state of the Vice-Chancellor Committee, which is crucial for efficient file processing. The committee is reportedly understaffed, with one member's tenure having ended and another having resigned due to health reasons. Only the Secretary of Higher Education remains as the convenor, leading to apprehension about the university's administrative continuity and its ability to maintain its academic reputation and rankings.
