Bed Bug Scare at Barrie School: No Bugs Found
17 Sep
Summary
- A family reported bed bugs at Barrie North Collegiate Institute.
- School investigation found no bed bugs present at the school.
- Increased awareness implemented as a precautionary measure.

Barrie North Collegiate Institute recently addressed a reported bed bug incident. The Simcoe County District School Board sent an initial letter to parents on Wednesday after a family reported bed bugs. However, a subsequent investigation by the school found no evidence of the insects on school grounds.
The school's principal confirmed that the original report pertained to bed bugs within the wider Barrie North community, not the school itself. Out of an abundance of caution, the school is implementing increased awareness protocols to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit advises that bed bugs can affect anyone and are small, apple seed-sized insects active at night. They are known to travel via personal belongings and their bites are typically itchy but do not transmit disease.
