New Meditation Center Opens Doors on AU Campus

The Mahabodhi Mekapati Goutham Reddy International Centre for Meditation-Dhamma was inaugurated on the Andhra University campus on Saturday, February 21, 2026. This significant facility, built at an estimated cost of ₹4 crore, represents a joint initiative between the Mahabodhi Society and Andhra University, marking a first for public educational institutions in the state.
The center was generously donated by former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and his wife Manimanjari, honoring their late son, former Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy. Spanning 15,000 square feet, it includes a Dhamma Hall, Vipassana meditation hall, dormitories, rooms for monks, and an upcoming library.
This center is poised to offer a variety of programs. Managed by the Mahabodhi Society, it will provide courses in Mindfulness and Social-Emotional Learning, Vipassana training, Yoga sessions, student counseling, and research on human values and Buddhist studies. The family hopes it will be a sanctuary for peace and happiness for students and the public.
