Forty Mile Road's Deadly Toll: Families Demand Safety
18 Mar
Summary
- Two families demand urgent safety changes on Forty Mile Road.
- Children airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center after crash.
- Yuba County reports 2 deaths and 34 injury crashes in four years.

Tragedy has struck Yuba County twice in recent weeks, with families now demanding urgent safety upgrades on Forty Mile Road. A collision on Friday near the Hard Rock Casino left Jaclyn Kazemba and her two sons, Kyle, 9, and Nicholas, 13, with severe injuries. Kazemba's vehicle was found down an embankment, while the other driver also sustained major injuries.
Kyle suffered broken leg bones and is expected to recover, but Nicholas remains in critical condition after experiencing broken bones and brain swelling, requiring two surgeries to manage the swelling. His father expressed deep anguish over his son's fight for life.
This incident occurred just one week after a woman in a wheelchair was fatally struck near the same location. Statistics from the California Highway Patrol reveal that in the last four years, Forty Mile Road has seen two deaths, seven serious injury crashes, and 25 minor injury crashes.
Yuba County officials have indicated plans for an entertainment zone and associated safety improvements in the near future. However, the affected families insist that action is needed now to prevent further tragedies on this poorly lit rural road lacking sidewalks.
