A critical barrier lake in China's Xizang autonomous region, a consequence of a severe mudslide in Nepal, continues to present significant hidden dangers. Officials have alerted that downstream riverbanks remain vulnerable to collapse, potentially leading to the formation of additional barrier lakes.
Furthermore, glaciers surrounding a scour pit in Nepal's Chhochen Khola River, which flows into China's Purepu Tsangpo River, are also at risk of collapse. Recent monitoring as of Monday morning showed the water surface area of this scour pit had decreased significantly, covering 83,000 square meters. Drone footage also revealed multiple landslide bodies of varying sizes along riverbanks within 3 kilometers downstream of the primary barrier lake, indicating ongoing instability.
