- Investigation suggests she may have tripped, leading to the fatal attack.
A newly graduated biologist, Patricia Wyman, tragically lost her life in a brutal wolf attack just days into her new role at the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre Sanctuary in Canada. The 24-year-old was tasked with feeding and monitoring a pack of North American grey wolves.
On April 18, 1996, Wyman entered the wolves' enclosure alone, an act that remains unexplained. Investigators theorize she might have tripped on fallen branches, an opportunity the pack seized. The entire pack, with wolves weighing up to 80kg each, is believed to have participated in the attack.
Her body was discovered by horrified employees, with wolves found guarding it. A coroner later ruled the wolves should be euthanized. Colleagues described Wyman as an enthusiastic and brave woman deeply passionate about wolves, perhaps making her overly bold in her interactions with them.
