Blizzard Traps Wolcott Residents for 24 Hours
26 Feb
Summary
- Residents were trapped for over 24 hours by heavy snowfall.
- Snow cleanup delays left apartment doors blocked by snow.
- Mayor acknowledged the situation as unacceptable.

Residents of Countryside Apartments in Wolcott found themselves effectively snowbound for more than 24 hours after a significant blizzard. Approximately 16 inches of snow accumulated, blocking the main doors of the apartment buildings. This made it impossible for residents, including seniors, to leave their homes.
Family members and caregivers also faced challenges accessing the apartments. The situation caused significant distress among residents who felt neglected by the property management company, SH Management. Calls to authorities were made, and the mayor visited the complex, confirming residents' inability to exit their homes.
Snow clearing efforts began around 10 a.m. Tuesday, with landscapers and local help finally removing the snow. The mayor stated that while the town's ability to intervene on private property is limited, they intend to discuss snow removal protocols with the property owner. Residents expressed relief but also voiced concerns about the lack of preparedness and empathy during the storm.
