20 Feb
Summary
- Alexandra Blattner, 20, died after crashing into a tree and breaking her neck.
- The incident occurred at Granite Peak ski resort in Rib Mountain State Park.
- This marks the second ski resort fatality in less than a month.

A college student has died in a ski accident at Granite Peak, a resort located in Rib Mountain State Park, Wisconsin. Alexandra Blattner, a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, was found deceased on February 5 following a crash into a tree that resulted in a broken neck.
Emergency crews responded to the incident shortly before 7:30 PM. Her friend, who was skiing with her, estimated their speed at 25 to 30 miles per hour. After reaching the bottom of the slope, he went back up to find her and discovered ski patrol already present.
Blattner was a pre-nursing and psychology student and served as vice president of recruitment for her sorority. Her death is the second at Granite Peak in less than a month, following the January 11 fatality of 30-year-old Matthew Ciolkosz, who also crashed into a tree. Both incidents were ruled accidental.
Before these recent events, the last fatality at Granite Peak occurred three years prior due to cardiac arrest. Prior to that, a snowboarder died in 2009 from blunt force trauma.
