Winnipeg Woman Hailed Hero After River Rescue
6 Sep
Summary
- Woman jumped into Red River to save father and daughter.
- Child rescued was non-breathing, CPR administered immediately.
- Family grateful, called rescuer an angel after near-tragedy.

Jaclyn Morrissette has been reunited with the family she dramatically saved from drowning in Winnipeg's Red River last week. Morrissette recalled the "exhilarating and surreal" experience of meeting the young girl and her father again, especially after the family conveyed their belief that their daughter wouldn't survive.
On August 24, Morrissette witnessed a four-year-old girl struggling in the water. When the father entered the river and did not resurface, Morrissette immediately jumped in. She managed to pull the father to shore before turning her attention to the child.
The little girl was found unresponsive and not breathing. Morrissette commenced CPR, continuing until relieved by a friend and later by police. The child was transported to the hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable and is expected to recover fully.
The family, who have been in Winnipeg for approximately one to two years, expressed profound gratitude during a reunion outside Morrissette's home. They shared their disbelief and amazement that she was able to save both lives, describing her as an "angel."
