Daredevil wingsuit pilot Brendan Weinstein, 32, perished in a horrific accident on Table Mountain in Cape Town on January 5th. Traveling at approximately 120mph, Weinstein failed to deploy his parachute after a 1000ft dive, impacting rocks below. The highly experienced pilot, who had completed over 1600 wingsuit flights, leaves behind his partner Kivia Martins and baby son Eiger.
Weinstein reportedly ascended Table Mountain using the cable car, concealing his equipment. He launched from a known, yet technical, flight point. Dozens of tourists witnessed the impact near a popular hiking trail. Wilderness Search & Rescue teams, along with a helicopter, located his body shortly after the incident. This marks the third BASE jumping fatality in South Africa.
Authorities confirmed the pilot's injuries were too severe for immediate identification, requiring DNA confirmation. Weinstein's website previously showcased his daring flights, featured by major platforms like Red Bull and GoPro. While BASE jumping is illegal from Table Mountain, it remains a dangerous sport, with Weinstein listed as the 147th fatality since records began in 1983.
