Child Crashes Golf Cart in Drunk-Goggle Demo
10 Sep
Summary
- An 11-year-old operating a golf cart with impairment goggles crashed into a crowd.
- The incident occurred during a National Night Out event in Wildwood, New Jersey.
- A lawsuit was filed alleging negligence by the police department and city.

A lawsuit was filed on August 5, 2026, against the city of Wildwood, its police department, and an officer following a golf cart incident during a community event. On August 6, 2024, an 11-year-old was participating in a National Night Out demonstration on a baseball field at Fox Park.
The child was using a golf cart equipped with "impairment goggles" designed to simulate drunk driving. While navigating a course, the youngster reportedly lost control and veered into a crowd of spectators, injuring several people.
The plaintiffs, including Wildwood resident Christopher Hines and his family from Ohio, claim the police officer in the passenger seat and the department should have foreseen the risks. Injuries sustained include a collapsed lung, concussion, neck and back injuries, and emotional distress.
The lawsuit asserts that the demonstration's purpose, to highlight impaired driving dangers, made placing a child in the driver's seat negligent. The defendants have declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.
