A substantial wildfire has broken out on Whitmoor Common, a protected nature reserve in Surrey. Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has dispatched ten appliances to combat the flames on the 166-hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest. The fire is estimated to cover approximately 1 hectare of the sensitive heathland. Residents in the vicinity are being advised to take precautions by closing their windows and doors. This is not the first wildfire incident at this location, as over 3 hectares of heathland were previously affected in April. Such areas are particularly vulnerable to fires during extended dry spells.
