Flood-Plagued Wigan Residents Live in Constant Fear of Rain
30 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Homes in Carville Grove, Hindley Green flooded twice in 10 months
- Residents traumatized, unsure if rebuilding is worthwhile
- Wigan Council working with agencies to address drainage issues

As of September 30th, 2025, residents of Carville Grove in Hindley Green, Wigan are living in constant fear of rain after their homes were flooded twice in the past 10 months. Just last month, on September 11th, a blockage in the culverted watercourse was cleared by the local authorities, but heavy rainfall has continued to pose a serious risk of flooding in the area.
In the most recent incident on New Year's Day this year, homeowners Janine and Derek Walsh had only recently restored their property after the previous flood, only to see water rise up from the ground and flow into their house once again. "It was so traumatic. I never thought we would have to go through this again," Mrs. Walsh lamented. Her husband, Mr. Walsh, expressed his frustration, saying, "You want to rebuild but what's the point? You are living in constant fear of the rain."
