A major burst water main in west London has resulted in extensive flooding and water supply issues for thousands of residents. The incident occurred around 03:55 GMT on Wednesday near the Holland Park roundabout, with floodwaters reaching a depth of 1 meter (3ft 2in).
London Fire Brigade reported that the burst 30-inch water main affected over 50 homes and a hotel across a one-mile area. Firefighters utilized specialized equipment, including an inflatable rescue boat, to evacuate residents and employed flood barriers to manage the water flow. The flooding had subsided by 05:23 GMT, and affected residents were temporarily housed in a local hotel.
Thames Water has issued an apology for the disruption. Customers in postcodes including W12, W6, W4, W14, W8, W11, and W1H may be experiencing low water pressure or complete loss of supply. The company's engineers have shut off the affected pipe to commence repairs and are providing support to affected residents, including delivering bottled water to those on their priority services register.
