A religious trip for over 30 devotees from Ludhiana and Jagraon to Vrindavan ended in tragedy on Friday morning. While singing bhajans on a boat near Keshi Ghat, their vessel overturned, allegedly after colliding with a floating pontoon on the Yamuna River. Ten individuals have died, with five others reported missing as rescue operations continued.
Survivors recounted the terrifying experience of being plunged into the water. Many were rescued by divers who were on the riverbanks. The Banke Bihari Club, which organized the trip for the fourth consecutive year, confirmed that both Ludhiana and Jagraon residents were part of the group. Authorities have established helplines to assist families in identifying the deceased and missing.
The Chief Minister of Punjab expressed his grief and spoke with his Uttar Pradesh counterpart, assuring full assistance for the victims. Special teams of civil and police officers were dispatched to Vrindavan to coordinate relief and rescue efforts with local authorities.
