Rameshwar Dudi, a prominent Congress leader and former opposition leader in the Rajasthan Assembly, passed away in Bikaner in the early hours of October 4, 2025. He was 62 years old.
Dudi had been in a coma for nearly 25 months after suffering a brain stroke in August 2023. Despite the best efforts of his family and medical professionals, he could not recover from the debilitating condition. According to his family, Dudi breathed his last around 1 a.m. on October 4.
The news of Dudi's demise has sent shockwaves through the Congress party and his constituents in Bikaner. A large number of party members and supporters gathered outside his residence to pay their respects as his final journey began. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra were among those who carried Dudi's bier.
Born in Bikaner in 1963, Dudi had risen through the ranks of Rajasthan politics, making a name for himself as a politician with a strong mass base. He had even contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections against Bollywood actor Dharmendra, though he lost the closely fought battle. Dudi's political legacy continues through his wife, Sushila Dudi, who won the Nokha assembly seat in the 2023 state elections on a Congress ticket.
