Venezuela Quakes: Death Toll Surpasses 4,300

As of July 11, 2026, the death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has tragically risen to over 4,300, according to a government official. The twin quakes, which occurred on June 24 in La Guaira, included a 7.2-magnitude shock followed by a 7.5-magnitude tremor, marking the largest seismic events in the country in over a century.

Jorge Rodriguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, reported that at least 4,333 people perished and over 16,740 were injured. Extensive relief efforts are underway, with more than 31,800 troops and 30,000 volunteers deployed. Medical aid has been provided to over 31,100 patients, and more than 9,700 tons of food have been distributed.

However, the crisis persists, with over 18,400 survivors currently housed in makeshift camps and more than 17,900 remaining without homes. In response, the United Nations has initiated an urgent appeal to raise $296 million, aiming to assist up to 1.3 million affected individuals. UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher visited La Guaira, vowing that global solidarity and support are coming to those in need.
