New Bridge to End Flooding Woes in Vadodara
28 Jan
Summary
- A Rs 31 crore bridge will connect low-lying areas to Vadodara.
- The bridge aims to prevent isolation during Vishwamitri river floods.
- Residents feared crocodiles and sought supplies during past floods.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has commenced construction on the Vadsar bridge, a significant infrastructure project aimed at permanently resolving the isolation of low-lying residential areas during periods of high water levels in the Vishwamitri river. This new bridge will ensure continuous connectivity for housing complexes such as Casa Residency and Samruddhi Mansion.
Previously, rising water levels would inundate the road, cutting off these areas and necessitating rescue operations. The Rs 31 crore project, fast-tracked after residents were stranded in September, is expected to be completed within a month. VMC officials have faced challenges in the past, with some residents refusing evacuation, requiring rescue teams and supplies to be on standby, especially given the proximity of crocodiles.
The bridge's construction was prioritized following incidents last year where residents experienced complete isolation. The VMC bridge department's proposal received approval from the elected wing, highlighting the urgency of the situation. This development will significantly improve the safety and accessibility for residents in these vulnerable areas.
