Tragic Repeat: Teen Plunges to Death from Utah Power Tower, Echoing 2007 Incident
15 Nov
Summary
- 16-year-old boy fell 60 feet from Utah utility tower
- Same tower where another teen died in 2007 under similar circumstances
- Community demands increased security measures to prevent future tragedies

On November 14, 2025, a 16-year-old boy tragically plummeted approximately 60 feet to his death from a Rocky Mountain Power structure in Fruit Heights, Utah, about 25 miles outside of Salt Lake City. The incident occurred in the same location where 15-year-old Scott Nye was electrocuted and fell to his death in a similar accident back in 2007.
According to the Davis County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified teen was with a group of other teenagers when he climbed the utility tower. When first responders arrived, they found the boy suffering from severe burns consistent with electrocution, as well as traumatic injuries from the fall. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The community is now demanding increased security measures around the tower, insisting that both deaths could have been prevented. A memorial plaque for Scott Nye stands at the site, and signage warning of high voltage and instructing people to "Keep Off" is in place, but locals argue that these measures are clearly insufficient. They believe that additional safeguards, such as fencing or lighting, should have been implemented to deter unauthorized access and protect the public, especially after the previous tragedy.
The latest victim was a student at Layton High School, and his former classmates have expressed deep sadness over the loss of their "extremely funny" and "creative" peer.
