Utah Mayor Ren Hatt Tragically Killed in Truck Collision

Green River is deeply saddened by the tragic death of its mayor, Ren Hatt, who was killed in a collision with a semi-truck on Friday, December 5th. The fatal crash occurred on U.S. Route 6 when a semi-truck unexpectedly drifted into the eastbound lanes, colliding with Hatt's vehicle. Officials stated that impairment was not suspected as an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Hatt, 40, was a beloved figure in Green River, recently winning reelection for his second term as mayor. He was remembered by the city as a dedicated public servant who served with honesty, kindness, and unwavering commitment. His fiancée, Maria Sykes, also shared her grief, calling him the "love of my life."

Having grown up in Green River, Hatt had a deep connection to the community. He pursued higher education and legal studies, worked in Tennessee's Medicaid office, and later returned to manage his family's business. He also taught at Green River High School before serving as mayor, continuing his teaching role while in office.
