A family of five perished in a devastating flash flood while hiking in southern Utah. The victims, identified as Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long, his wife Katrina, and their sons Reid, Thayne, and Gage, were on a day excursion on Friday.
They had arrived at the Sunglow campground near Bicknell, Utah, where heavy rains are suspected to have caused the flash flood. The incident occurred amid intense rainfall, leading to a swift and deadly surge of water through the canyons.
Recovery efforts began on Friday evening when the body of a young man was discovered. The remains of the other family members were subsequently found on Friday and Saturday. A daughter, who was not part of the hiking trip, is the sole survivor.
