The NTSB's preliminary report indicates that the plane's left engine detached, and cracks were found on the wing structure. This tragic event claimed the lives of the three crew members aboard the flight and 12 individuals on the ground, including three employees at Grade A Recycling.
In response to the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary ban on MD-11 aircraft, which are exclusively used for cargo transport. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with wrongful death lawsuits already filed against UPS and the engine manufacturer, General Electric.
