A severe thunderstorm on Monday evening caused a house fire in Emersons Green, a suburb east of Bristol. The detached property was engulfed in flames shortly before 6pm following a lightning strike. Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 5:55pm and managed to bring the blaze under control by 10pm. Although the occupants escaped without injury, one person near the scene sustained an unrelated injury and was attended to by paramedics. The fire is believed to have been caused by the lightning strike.
