A structure fire on Browns Road in Mansfield that began around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday morning led to the tragic death of two family pets. Arriving emergency units found the 1.5-story home engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate second alarm to secure additional resources. Firefighters faced considerable operational hurdles, notably the lack of a nearby hydrant, necessitating water shuttle operations to sustain their efforts.
Crews worked diligently under intense heat and heavy smoke, particularly within the second floor of the residence. Fortunately, both human occupants were safely outside when emergency personnel arrived, with no injuries reported. Several other animals housed in a nearby shelter were protected, with Animal Control assisting in their care and placement. The American Red Cross is providing support to the displaced residents.
