Tragedy struck near Waterford on Saturday afternoon when a collision between a car and a van claimed two lives. The incident occurred around noon on the Tramore Road at Robin Hill in the Pickardstown area.
Authorities confirmed that a man and a woman, both in their 40s and occupants of the car, were fatally injured. Emergency services pronounced them deceased at the scene of the accident. Their bodies were later transported to University Hospital Waterford for post-mortem examinations.
Two individuals traveling in the van, a man in his 50s and a juvenile male, sustained injuries that were assessed as non-life-threatening. They were also taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment and evaluation.
The road was temporarily closed to facilitate an investigation by gardai and forensic teams. The coroner has been notified of the fatalities. The exact cause of the collision is under investigation.
