On the evening of Saturday, November 15, 2025, a devastating road accident occurred in Co Louth, Ireland, resulting in the tragic loss of five young lives. According to the Garda, the collision involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Landcruiser on the L3168 at Gibstown, just outside Dundalk.
Superintendent Charlie Armstrong reported that five occupants of the Volkswagen Golf, three males and two females all in their early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 20s from the Volkswagen and a man and woman from the other vehicle were taken to the nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.
The Garda has launched a full investigation into the accident, and family liaison officers have been appointed to support the affected families. Superintendent Armstrong expressed his deepest condolences to the families and communities impacted by this "shocking and devastating" event.
Emergency services, including the Dundalk Fire Brigade, HSE paramedics, and staff at the hospital, responded promptly to the incident. The Garda has appealed for any witnesses or individuals with relevant camera footage to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
