Gardener Killed in Freak Lawnmower Accident on Final Day of Job

In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old gardener named Kamil Grygieniec has died after the sit-on lawnmower he was operating fell on top of him. The accident occurred on October 8, 2021, which was the last day of Grygieniec's landscaping job.

Grygieniec, who was from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, was found lifeless and face down in a pond after cutting grass on an inclined bank in the village of North Stainley, near Ripon. A post-mortem examination revealed that he had suffered "sharp blunt force injuries" to the left side of his head, caused by the impact of the mower.

Grygieniec's mother, Ava, described her son as a "hard-working and popular" young man who had a "very bright future ahead of him." He had been due to start a new job the following Monday, but tragically, his life was cut short in this freak accident.

The inquest into Grygieniec's death is ongoing, and the coroner will need to determine whether the incident could have been avoided. The Health and Safety Executive has also examined the lawnmower and found that it was not equipped with a rollover protection system, and Grygieniec was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have contributed to the severity of the accident.
