Bar faces 60-day license loss after fatal fall
6 Nov
Summary
- Bar may lose liquor license for 60 days after patron's death.
- Customer was served the equivalent of 21 standard drinks.
- Establishment allegedly served patron after becoming intoxicated.

A St. Louis Bar & Grill location in Toronto is at risk of losing its liquor license for two months. This proposed suspension by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) follows the death of a customer on April 14.
The patron was reportedly served 14 large beers over five and a half hours, equivalent to 21 standard drinks. Tragically, the customer fell down a flight of stairs while going to the washroom and later died.
Following an investigation, AGCO officials determined the bar permitted the patron to stay and continued serving them alcohol after they became intoxicated. This action contravened the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019.
AGCO CEO Dr. Karin Schnarr emphasized the critical importance of responsible alcohol service, stating licensees must monitor patrons, recognize intoxication, and cease serving when necessary. The licensee has 15 days to appeal the AGCO's proposal.
