Tragedy struck the Windchase Apartments in Sanford on Friday night, February 14th, when a 2-year-old child was found unresponsive. Authorities were alerted by a missing person call around 10:00 p.m. Responding Sanford police officers initiated an immediate search of the apartment complex grounds after arriving at the scene.
During the search, officers located the child in a retention pond. The child was not breathing and unresponsive when discovered. Emergency responders and officers performed life-saving measures at the scene. The Sanford Fire Department then transported the child to a nearby hospital, where they were tragically pronounced deceased.
