A devastating incident occurred in Videira, Brazil, on April 25, 2025, when a three-year-old boy, Miguel Antunes Versari, died after being left in a parked car for over ten hours. The child was experiencing flu-like symptoms and had been given ibuprofen, leading him to sleep deeply in the vehicle.
His stepmother, intending to drop him at nursery, reportedly forgot Miguel was in the car after taking her wife to work. The outside temperature reached approximately 31C, with the car's interior potentially exceeding 57C. Miguel was discovered lifeless by his stepmother when she went to collect him from nursery.
An autopsy confirmed death by heatstroke and asphyxiation. Security footage showed Miguel was alive for some time before movements ceased. His stepmother is awaiting trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter, with police attributing the death to negligence. There were no signs of prior physical trauma on the child's body.
