A powerful tornado ripped through Mineral Wells, Texas, on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction and sending five people to the hospital. Mayor Regan Johnson expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, calling the outcome "amazing" given the severe damage.
Local fire chief Ryan Dunn reported that while five individuals were hospitalized, others received treatment for minor injuries from debris and collapsed structures. The affected area is primarily commercial and industrial, with at least two manufacturers, including Ventamatic, suffering heavy damage. Operations at Ventamatic were suspended due to severe damage and safety concerns.
The tornado's impact also led to widespread power outages across Texas, with over 9,000 homes and businesses affected. Mineral Wells officials declared a local state of disaster and implemented an overnight curfew. This event follows a week of violent weather across the South and Midwest, including fatal tornadoes in North Texas and a storm-related death in Michigan.
