Dabelstein, a junior studying to be a registered nurse, was traveling northbound in a Kia Rio and was stopped at a traffic signal. She was struck from behind by a Ford F-150, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. The impact propelled her vehicle through the intersection.
She was transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and passed away approximately three days later. The driver of the F-150 and his passenger, both 81 years old, sustained minor injuries. The passenger indicated the driver might have experienced a blackout and could not release the accelerator.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Family members have initiated a GoFundMe to cover Dabelstein's funeral costs. She is remembered as a kind and loving individual devoted to her family and animals.
