A flight carrying a pickleball team to a tournament tragically ended in a crash on Thursday night near Wimberley, Texas. The aircraft, which departed from Amarillo, was carrying five individuals who were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Four of the deceased were members of the Amarillo Pickleball Club, with the club's president expressing deep sorrow over the loss of fellow players. A second plane from the same club had also been traveling to the tournament and successfully landed safely at an airport in New Braunfels.
Federal authorities have taken the lead in investigating the cause of the crash. The National Weather Service reported cloudy conditions in the area prior to the incident, with a thunderstorm occurring later. Wimberley and New Braunfels are tourist destinations located in the Texas Hill Country.
