A woman inside her Texas home was killed Friday night when a Tesla, allegedly in self-driving mode, crashed into the residence. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in Katy, Texas.
The driver, Michael Butler, was reportedly using an automated driving assistance system when his Tesla Model 3 failed to maintain its lane. The vehicle left the roadway at high speed and entered the brick house, striking the victim, identified as M. Avila.
Avila was transported to a hospital by helicopter but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Butler sustained injuries but was reportedly cooperating with investigators and showed no signs of intoxication. No charges have been filed as of Saturday afternoon, and the investigation continues.
