Night Rescue: Teenagers Saved from Cliff Ledge
31 May
Summary
- Two teenagers rescued from cliff ledge after night operation.
- Crews battled rough seas and a sudden thunderstorm.
- Rescue also followed an earlier operation saving paddleboarders.

Emergency crews successfully rescued two teenagers who were stranded on a cliff ledge along the Seven Quarries coastline in Brixham. The operation, which commenced late on Tuesday night following reports from concerned parents, was complicated by hazardous sea conditions and a sudden thunderstorm. The difficult terrain, including a sheer cliff face, prevented land access, necessitating a rescue plan involving an inshore lifeboat (ILB).
The rescue effort was further challenged by the nighttime conditions and rough seas. The ILB's crew skillfully maneuvered the boat close to the ledge to safely recover the teenagers, who were reportedly tired and cold, just as dawn was breaking on Wednesday. This incident occurred shortly after the same RNLI crews had completed an earlier rescue of eight stranded paddleboarders in the vicinity, demonstrating a demanding period of activity for the local maritime rescue services.
