Teenager Drowns in Palamu Dam Tragedy

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in Palamu, where 16-year-old Sarita Kumari of Khajuri Naudeeha village drowned in Bataney Dam. The area falls under the Naudeeha bazaar police station limits.
According to the police station in charge, Sarita had accompanied her younger brother to a local health centre earlier that day. Subsequently, they visited the dam, where she allegedly slipped and fell into the water. Her brother's cries for help alerted villagers and divers.
Search efforts were immediately launched, and after five hours, Sarita's body was recovered. Police have initiated an unnatural death case investigation, confirming no foul play was involved. In response to the tragedy, Sarita's family is expected to receive Rs 4 lakh as ex gratia relief as per the state's drowning compensation scheme.
