An off-road vehicle fire during a trip to Utah on April 2 has left a 15-year-old girl with severe injuries. Brooklyn, daughter of Orange County Fire Captain Mike Mallett, sustained burns to approximately 40% of her body, primarily on her legs and one hand. The accident occurred while the family was traveling back to their campsite in a caravan of vehicles near St. George.
Brooklyn was airlifted to a specialized burn center in Las Vegas, where she has already undergone multiple surgeries with many more anticipated. She is expected to remain hospitalized for at least two months, followed by an extensive recovery and rehabilitation period. Her 17-year-old brother witnessed the accident, and the family is temporarily relocating to Las Vegas to support Brooklyn.
The IAFF Local 3631 union has established a GoFundMe through the Fallen Firefighters Relief Fund to assist the Mallett family. The donations will cover medical expenses, travel, temporary housing, and long-term care. The union emphasized that Captain Mallett has dedicated his life to serving others, and now his family needs community support.
