A teenage boy who was dramatically rescued from an incoming tide six months ago has met the dedicated volunteers who saved him. Kaan, 13, was playing with friends at Wells-next-the-Sea when the tide swept him out to a sandbar, an event captured live by BBC cameras. He recounted the moment he realized the sandbank was disappearing and the immense relief when the RNLI lifeboat arrived.
Visiting the Wells RNLI lifeboat station, Kaan expressed profound thankfulness to the crew members who responded to the emergency. His mother, Sam, also conveyed her heartfelt appreciation, emphasizing the volunteers' commitment, especially as the holiday season approaches. She highlighted the importance of public awareness regarding tide times and the potential dangers.
The RNLI volunteer water safety adviser, Mandy Humphreys, stressed that people can still get into trouble in the water at any time of year. She urged everyone to be mindful of tide times, advising a return to shore at least four hours before high tide to prevent being cut off.
