A 12-year-old girl, Tamika, has been lauded as a 'little hero' after a dramatic rescue at Pensarn beach in Abergele. She saved her 14-year-old friend, Sofia-Ann, who began to drown after suffering a seizure while paddling in the sea. Tamika bravely grabbed Sofia-Ann by her hair, dragging her to the shore.
Sofia-Ann was initially unresponsive and was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital. Doctors drained water from her lungs, and she has since recovered, returning home to rest. The incident occurred on May 28 during a heatwave.
Emergency services, including rescue teams and police, responded to reports of teenagers cut off by the tide. Sofia-Ann experienced further seizures en route to the hospital. Her mother expressed profound gratitude to Tamika and praised the bystanders who raised the alarm, acknowledging the grave danger her daughter faced.
