A teenage boy sustained multiple injuries after falling approximately 15 feet through a skylight at a derelict building. The incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, February 19, at the former Debenhams store located on Royal Parade.
Emergency services, including police, ambulance, and fire services, were dispatched to the scene. The 14-year-old, a local resident, was transported to Derriford Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were not deemed life-threatening or life-changing.
Following the incident, Devon and Cornwall Police issued a stern warning concerning the dangers associated with urban exploration. Inspector Greg Bridgett highlighted the hazardous conditions within the disused store and urged young people to avoid such risky activities.
The police have pledged a robust approach towards individuals found trespassing in derelict buildings and are collaborating with the local council and property owners to address security concerns at vacant properties.
