Two teenagers lost their lives in a severe e-bike accident that occurred south of Brisbane on Thursday evening. The incident took place around 9 PM on Middle Road in Greenbank when a Harley Davidson, during an overtaking maneuver, collided head-on with an e-bike traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene but tragically pronounced both the teenage boy and girl on the e-bike deceased. The rider of the Harley Davidson was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries but was reported to be in a stable condition.
The Queensland Forensic Crash Unit has commenced an investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding this fatal collision. Initial reports suggest the e-bike may not have had its headlights illuminated at the time of the crash, a critical factor being examined.
In Queensland, specific regulations govern e-bike usage for minors; riders aged 12 to 15 require adult supervision, while those under 12 are prohibited. Police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist their inquiry into the event.
