An inquest has concluded that an 18-year-old driver, Declan Berry, died from drowning after his car plunged into the River Nene near Wisbech.
Berry was driving four friends when the vehicle entered the water on March 17. He had been speeding at approximately 90mph moments before the crash, according to a passenger. When asked to slow down, Berry reportedly replied, "we will be fine."
His body was recovered two weeks after the incident. The inquest heard that the group had visited a gym and a McDonald's prior to the crash. A passenger suggested Berry intended to "show off" his car that evening.
