London teen dies after e-bike allegedly explodes

A devastating fire, suspected to be caused by an exploding electric bike, claimed the life of 16-year-old Tommy Ballay-Dean in Southwark, South London. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the home of his friend, Shauny Halsey, who also suffered critical, life-threatening burns. Shauny was placed in an induced coma and transferred to a hospital in Essex for surgeries, including skin grafts.
The blaze completely destroyed Shauny's family home and all their belongings. Shauny's parents and nine-year-old sister are currently staying in a hotel near the hospital, displaced and devastated by the loss. Investigators from the Met Police and London Fire Brigade are examining the cause, with initial suggestions pointing to a faulty e-bike or charger.
Tommy, known as Junior, was a talented footballer and a cherished member of his community, remembered for his bright smile and kind spirit.
